Socks with funky yarn!

Well...let's try this again. Somehow Blogger lost the words which were on the post. It was just as well since I couldn't upload the pictures of the socks the first time. Math is knitting. This is my method metaphor. In keeping with the metaphor, I will use knitting analogies to help with math. It should be fun for me!

These socks are a lesson in circumference. If I give you the diameter of my foot, the stitches per inch, and the size of the stripe, can you tell me how long each piece of yarn with the different color stripes are? I"ll work in it and let you know!

Let's see...
Diameter x Pi x stiches x width = length

See you're not the only geek out there :) I just want to know how you measure the diameter of you foot... and is it really a cylinder?
