Socks with funky yarn!

Well...let's try this again. Somehow Blogger lost the words which were on the post. It was just as well since I couldn't upload the pictures of the socks the first time. Math is knitting. This is my method metaphor. In keeping with the metaphor, I will use knitting analogies to help with math. It should be fun for me!

These socks are a lesson in circumference. If I give you the diameter of my foot, the stitches per inch, and the size of the stripe, can you tell me how long each piece of yarn with the different color stripes are? I"ll work in it and let you know!

What a week!

January 1 - New Year's Day...it was good to be home!
January 2 - Preparing to go back to school. I called the lawyer's office about Valley View. We are still waiting for papers to get ready!
January 3 - Back to school. There was a 7:45 meeting before school...and I was given a Hawks Hooray from Dr. Johnson! It was a good way to begin the day/week.
January 4 - Wrestling meet in Chester! Somehow there were no concessions. I'll have to see what we can do about that next year. Perhaps we need a Wrestling Boosters group to help run it?
January 5 - Wrestlers went to Cut Bank. Rick went up to watch.
January 6 - Speech/Debate bus left at 3:45 and Delaney was on that bus. Garrett was on the wrestlers bus that left at 6:15 for Browning. I went up there to watch, but the roads coming were ugly coming back. The weather was snowing and blowing...ick!
January 7 - The kids and I came home in the morning. It has been a laundry and clean house day...and now it is a pack for the week back in town. Wow.

What Classic Movie Are You?

I had to find some adventure for my last day of vacation. School begins tomorrow with a 7:45 meeting. I really do hate meetings!

I had to take the 45 questions to get Indy!

Happy 2007!

Tis the season for some resolutions...so here we go!

1. Blog more, I would like to say blog daily, but being realistic, I'll aim for weekly!
2. Log more, meaning keep a daily diary-type thingie, be it online or otherwise
3. Organize my world!
4. Create and Share those creations either online or in reality...golly, I am even going to keep a few of them...but I'll share visually!
5. Enjoy! I'm planning on saying no to the things/events in my life I really don't need for positive karma. Okay, I know I'll have some bummer type events (mandatory meetings and such) but if I'm knitting or coloring images I COULD be enjoying something!

And lastly....6. Tell the important people in my life how important they are...life is too fragile to be taken for granted!

Happy New Year!

Happiness for Dishes

I"m teaching an Adult Ed class on knitting, with many of the knitters wanting to knit the wash rags. They certainly are a good project to knit in the car!

These are up for adoption...procedes go to sending Garrett back East in April!

An amazing amount of knitting

Mom blessed me with Modea ChiChi yarn. It is so soft, but slides off the needles easily.

Shades of green in a vintage yarn.

Hot pink with lavendar all with a black base. I have given one of these scarves to a friend battling breast cancer, one has gone to a local WABC group, and then I have 2 left.

How do you spell chinille anyway?

Multidirectional scarf - 15% wool. This was vintage Reynolds Kitten yarn.

Snow Ball pics in 2006!

Both Garrett and Delaney attended the dance this year. Garrett went with Jackie ...are they sweet?

This was Delaney's first Snow Ball. She invited Levi to attend this CJI...and then she ended up getting the tiara for being voted Jill Frost. Wow.

I can hardly wait to get the other pictures from Jackie!

What Luck!

You are The Wheel of Fortune

Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of
intoxication with success

The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

Blame it all on Trek (or thank her!)

I have signed up to become a BzzAgent! I'm excited to actually feel as if I am a little closer to new and exciting events while still living in the wild and rural north country of Montana. I'm betting this experience will be a perfect fit!

Oh, this is too perfect

I found it on the Mathematical Poetry blog, but it works just as well for Thanksgiving!

I just Love Purple!

And here is my "shade"....

You Are Grape

You are bold and a true individual. You are very different and very okay with that.

People know you as a straight shooter. You're very honest, even when the truth hurts.

You are also very grounded and practical. No one is going to sneak anything by you.

People enjoy your fresh approach to life. And it's this honesty that makes you a very innovative person.

Button?

Finished Felted Objects

I really should have measured the items before and after they were felted...this is an amazing process which needs to be quantified! Still, the mitten will have a partner from the gold, then I will make a set of brown for Becka. I did learn from the process...the thumb is the correct length, but a bit fat. The scarf felted well...I can hardly wait to do it again!

Ready to felt!

I am experimenting with a mitten...and this multi-directional scarf. Wish me luck!

Yippeee! I have great news!

I went over to see Mom and Dad this weekend (as I have done every weekend since October 28th until now)...and when I got home, Mom called to say that DAD was able to go home as soon as Mom thought he was strong enough! Delaney and I (She had gone over to the Cat/Griz football game in Missoula...then she came over to the hospital to see her grandparents and come home with her mom!) were able to get Dad to walk around the halls. He did get winded, but it has been many years since he was able to do much walking, so he has a lot of muscle to rebuild. Here is the pic of Delaney and her grandpa Ken!

A Lap-Robe for my Daddy

With my Mom as the model. This blanket is full of healing wishes and prayers. See, Dad ended up in Saint Patricks Hospital in Missoula on October 28th. He awoke in pain, and then waited for my Mom to wake up. She loaded him into the pickup and drove to Missoula...about 60 miles to the south. Dad has been living with an anurism for over 5 years. During all this time, we were hoping he would gain strength and be able to have surgery to fix the problem, but we were told he probably wouldn't make it through that sugery. Dad ran out of waiting time on the 28th. He did survive the surgery, went to ICU, where I met my parents on that Saturday. He was gaining ground when I left to come home and pass out Halloween candy...October 31.

Dad was moved up to the fourth floor, so on November 4th I headed back over to see my Dad so we could celebrate his recovery. I started this lap robe the Friday evening before heading over. Once I arrived, Dad seemed to be deep in thought...or into the football game. Within 3 hours, he was in respiratory trama...which means they call for a trama team to rush him to ICU again. The more nervous I was, the faster I knit. I finished this robe using sized 13 needles, and two strands of Red Heart yarn. It is in SeaHawk colors...and that is Dad's team.

Dad is still in ICU, but he should be getting out of there soon...I'll gratefully accept all prayers for him and Mom...They are just too special and ready to celebrate 49 years together!

Becka's Request

My dear niece, Becka, requested the Flapper hat and mittens from Knitty so I tried my best to make this happen. I have created the hat...but the mittens may require more than a bit of help...it seems the thumbs just aren't tall enough! I need Becka to send the photo of her in the hat, but here is what it looked like before I felted it!

Back from Billings

Our state has an annual meeting for the Educators of Montana. This year's conference was in Billings...about a 300 mile trek through deer country. As we had an early out day last Wednesday, my fellow math teacher and I loaded my pickup with our bags (and his bike) so that we could join the other teachers heading south. I took some beautiful yarn I had received from LaVerna so that I could use it for a pair of mittens. I found a gorgeous new yarn store while I was there, but I"m not sure if the Wild Purl has a web site yet. It was heavenly to touch the many fibers...and the display of colors was worth dodging the deer. I will have to go back! While I was at the Wild Purl, I picked up some Cascade 220 to match the mitten yarn...and now I have a matching hat! These are finished just in time for me to go to the football team's playoff game tomorrow. Now if I can only find a new teal coat...I'll keep looking! Oh, the pic of the hat and mittens will be coming shortly.
